Empowering the Next Generation on National STEM/STEAM Day

Sierra Space

Celebrated on November 8th, National STEM/STEAM Day was created to promote and celebrate the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics across the United States – and that’s something we’re passionate about.

National STEAM Day provides the opportunity to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and space enthusiasts. We’re committed to fostering young people’s interest in space and encouraging them to pursue careers that will shape the future of space technology (and beyond).

We are committed to empowering our communities by providing a platform in space that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion through STEAM-related initiatives.

How We Are Inspiring Future Pioneers

Space offers an innovative business platform in space, and our company is building the technology that will help power this new economy. This includes revolutionizing space transportation methods, as well as making breakthroughs in microgravity research for human health.

We believe that the next generation of differentiated technologies and services will be possible through commercial infrastructure in space and our goal is to build that Earthspace ecosystemTM.

For these plans and dreams to become reality, we will need other pioneers to continue to join our mission and follow in our footsteps.

That’s why we’re so passionate about STEAM education. From hiring interns to mentoring future leaders in the space industry, Sierra Space is taking monumental steps to ensure that the next generation of young minds will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible.

Over the years, we’ve had the chance to connect with and inspire hundreds of STEAM college students through our Internship Experience. These interns have the opportunity to acquire hands-on experience while working on meaningful projects and building lifelong connections.

If you or someone you know is considering a STEAM career, look into our Internship Program. We’re always on the lookout for aspiring students who want to help enable the future commercial space economy to benefit life on Earth.

Supporting Inclusion in Space

As more people work in the space field and travel outside of our own planet, many are wondering why the gender gap doesn’t seem to be closing. Only about 4% of flight engineers are women, and of all the people who have gone to space since 1961, only a little over 10% have been female.

That’s something we’re passionate about changing. At Sierra Space, we continuously celebrate women in space, as well as the women on the ground who make our missions possible.

We are proud to have launched a Women’s Affinity Group that’s designed to connect women and other diverse teams with STEAM positions in space.

Sierra Space believes that everyone has a place in the field of science exploration and technology, and that diverse backgrounds and life experiences bring different perspectives to help solve complex scientific problems.

Empowering Communities Through STEAM

As communities become more diverse, we must promote inclusivity in STEAM positions.

For example, the total STEAM workforce is only about 15% Hispanic, 10% Asian, and 9% Black. American Indians and Alaska Natives together made up less than 1% of the workforce as of 2021.

As we mentioned before, we believe that space is for everyone. Sierra Space believes that the future commercial space economy will provide a future platform that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Our internship opportunities and job openings are open to all qualified applicants, and we are proud to offer a strong equal pay policy. We are committed to making STEAM a welcoming, inclusive field for all, and that starts within our own company. We’re proud to offer additional affinity groups that empower our diverse workforce.

Happy National STEAM DAY From Sierra Space!

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in STEAM occupations is projected to grow at twice the rate (10.8%) of overall employment (5.3%) through 2031. As a society, we need future generations to care about and pursue careers in STEAM fields – and that includes space.

At Sierra Space, we’re creating the foundational infrastructure and ecosystem that will enable the future of the commercial space economy to benefit life on Earth. We’re always looking for innovative, inspiring minds to join the team, but we’re also supporting future scientists, engineers, astronauts, and mathematicians.
